North Carolina General Statutes 160A-215 and Session Law 2011-170 allows the Town of Swansboro to levy a room occupancy tax on the gross receipts from any rental of any room, lodging, or accommodation furnished by a hotel, motel, inn, tourist camp, or similar place.  Such funds are then expended by the Tourism Development Authority to promote travel, tourism, and conventions, to sponsor tourist-related events and activities in the town, and to finance tourism-related capital projects in the town.  The Tourism Development Authority membership is appointed by the Board of Commissioners and consists of staggered terms for its six (6) members.
